Medical Massage is a hands-on treatment that focuses on a specific area, or areas, of the body where there is soft tissue pain. Medical Massage is not a full body deep tissue massage. It is a combination of different techniques such as myofascial therapy, gentle joint mobilizations, neuromuscular stretching, and other modalities to achieve the desired results. The treatment plan consists of between four to six consecutive treatments to achieve a specific functional outcome. Functional outcomes are measurable results such as; improved range of motion, walking longer distances with less pain, improved posture, and decreased pain on the pain scale. Postural assessments are done at the beginning, middle and the end of a treatment plan. This treatment is most effective for issues caused by soft tissue/muscle conditions.
Note: The primary reason it is called a medical massage is because it is often a therapeutic massage prescribed by a physician. However, a prescription from a physician is not required, except for insurance purposes. However, not all insurances participate.
